Spray Foam Insulation
TCS Insulation & Coatings is one of the most effective, energy efficient and cost-effective ways to insulate a home or commercial building. It can be sprayed to fill tight spaces such as attics, crawl spaces and rim joists in an existing home or pole barn. It can also be used to insulate new construction and to fill in gaps around windows, doors and vents.
Homeowners can choose to handle the installation themselves or have a professional do it for them. Both have pros and cons, and the decision usually comes down to time, skill set and budget. There are also differences in how the spray foam is applied, and this makes a difference in its effectiveness and the finished product.
Maximizing Energy Efficiency: How TCS Insulation & Coatings’ Spray Foam Can Help
Closed-cell spray foam is more expensive than open-cell, but it does a better job of insulating and creating an effective vapor barrier. It is also physically stronger, which can help protect against moisture and pests. It is also a more durable insulation than fiberglass batts per board foot.
A professional installer will use a large insulated truck, or “rig,” with an attached hose that can mix and spray the foam. This process is very precise, and the rigs are equipped with technology that ensures the proper mixture of ingredients.
The two components of spray polyurethane foam are mixed on site, and this creates a chemical reaction that creates the foam. The “A” side of the formula contains methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and/or polymeric MDI and the “B” side typically includes a blend of polyols, catalysts, blowing agents, flame retardants and surfactants.
