Shroomies Canada and Zoomers Canada Are the Only Canadian Psilocybin Dispensaries
A wave of capital is flowing into psychedelic startups, including two shroomies canada companies focused on using psilocybin to treat depression and addiction. One of those, Compass Therapeutics, has attracted big names like Thiel and a former Shark Tank star. Another, Mind Medicine, went public in Toronto this month with backing from cannabis-biggie Canopy Growth and a former “Shark Tank” host.
But for now, psilocybin remains a Schedule III drug, and possession and sales remain offences in Canada. Even so, a few entrepreneurs are starting up mushroom-selling outlets in anticipation of legalization.
Toronto’s first magic mushroom store, Shroomyz, opened this spring. Its Queen Street West location looks a lot like a cannabis store, with windows taped off for privacy and customers required to show identification before entering. It has a 4.9-star rating on Google and hundreds of good reviews to boot.
Psychedelic Journey: Exploring the Fascinating World of Magic Mushrooms
Vancouver is also home to a mushroom dispensary, Zoomers, which calls itself the country’s first medical psilocybin dispensary. Unlike the city’s legal cannabis shops, Zoomers isn’t selling mushrooms to recreational users; it only sells to patients with approved prescriptions.
If you’re looking to get the cheapest mushrooms, though, the best (and only) option is to grow your own. And, fortunately, many sites offer spores and kits to help people get started. Of course, growing your own carries the same risk as any other home grow: that you might run afoul of law enforcement. But, as the founders of both Zoomers and Shroomies Canada point out, getting caught isn’t likely to stop these mushroom pioneers from setting up shop.
