ALL YOUTH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE FREE!
Our Youth Disaster Preparedness Education programs empower children by providing them with the basic safety and life skills necessary to “get safe” and “stay safe” during disasters such as fires, floods, and severe thunderstorms. Our age-appropriate programs include vital safety messages and communicate this information in an interactive and engaging fashion.
Programs offered:
Pre-K and K
Fire Safety 101This fun, interactive program provides younger students with basic fire safety information to help them understand how fires can be prevented, identifies steps their families should take to prepare themselves in case a fire occurs and what to do in case of a fire in their homes. In addition to practicing skills such as Stop, Drop, and Roll and crawling under smoke to escape, students also take part in a hazard hunt, identifying possible fire threats in our illustrated Hazard House. This program is appropriate for students in grades Pre-K through 2.
Grades 1 and 2

Grades 3-5
Disaster DudesThis video-based program helps students identify, avoid, and cope with potentially "disasterous" situations. Students also learn the necessary steps to prepare their homes and families for potential disasters and find out the types of disaster events that are most likely to occur in their community. This hour-long program is appropriate for students in grades 3 through 5.
Grades 6-12
Out of JeopardyThis one hour program involves students in a fun, interactive learning game that provides them with important information on disaster agents and disaster preparedness. Teams of students compete in a "Jeopardy" style game where they work together to answer questions from various disaster-related categories with titles such as "Burnin' Up," "40 Days & 40 Nights" and "Shake, Rattle & Roll." This program is appropriate for students in grades 6 through 12.
General Disaster Preparedness ProgramStudents are taught the necessary steps to prepare their families and homes for potential disasters. These steps include putting together a Family Disaster Plan and assembling a disaster supply kit. In discussing the disaster plan, students learn the importance of preparedness steps such as installing smoke alarms, posting emergency phone numbers and making and practicing escape plans with their families. Students also learn what to include as part of a disaster suppliy kit. This program can be used with students in grades 3 through 12.
